{"id":6619,"date":"2010-11-10T01:11:30","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T01:11:30","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-11-10T01:11:13","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T01:11:13","slug":"Penn-celebrates-10-year-Pan-Asian-Am-Community-House-","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=6619","title":{"rendered":"Penn celebrates 10 year Pan Asian Am Community House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Pan Asian American Community House (PAACH) is celebrating 10 years<\/strong> of serving as a cultural resource center at Penn.<\/p>\n<p>At PAACH\u2019s home in the Arch Building, 3601 Locust Walk, students can participate in programs addressing culture, student leadership and peer mentoring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can walk in and feel totally comfortable and not have to hide who you are or what your interests are,\u201d says Rohan Grover, a Wharton senior. Grover says PAACH <strong>has helped him become more self-aware and more involved in activities within the wider campus community.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>PAACH offers advising, support and programs for students interested in issues regarding the South Asian, East Asian and Southeast Asian American communities.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cPAACH is whatever you make it to be,\u201d says senior Bonny Tsang. \u201cIt can be a place where you do your homework, a place where you watch television, hang out, talk with your friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"500\" height=\"385\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/hjs_sLvDDZY?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/hjs_sLvDDZY?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"500\" height=\"385\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>On Oct. 29 and 30, PACCH kicked off its 10th anniversary celebration with a gala and reunion of alumni who helped form the center in 2000<\/strong>. Former students joined current and former staff members to reconnect and reminisce. Penn Masala, the Hindi a capella group performed, and Kusum Soin, the center\u2019s office coordinator who\u2019s been with PAACH from the beginning, was honored in a special ceremony. <\/p>\n<p>June Chu, who\u2019s been PAACH\u2019s director for six years, says: \u201cIn this time, this critical period during college, really, it\u2019s about identity search. And if students choose to search for identity in terms of their ethnicity, a safe space is very critical in helping them understand the challenges that they face and the similarities they share with other Asian Americans who are on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Arch Building also houses Makuu Black Cultural Center and La Casa Latina, the Latino cultural center.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Justin Ching participates in events at all of the centers. \u201cAs people, we find that we are more similar that we are different,\u201d he says. \u201cBeing able to look at each other and share that experience with them, where you have an appreciation for each other\u2019s culture, I think is very important.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><em><a
