{"id":6693,"date":"2010-11-18T18:11:19","date_gmt":"2010-11-18T18:11:19","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-10-13T20:43:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T20:43:21","slug":"mahindra-indo-american-arts-council-film-festival-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=6693","title":{"rendered":"Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five days of sold-out feature, shorts, and documentary screenings of <strong>South Asian films <\/strong>in partnership with the Film Society at Lincoln Center, nightly red-carpet events, film industry panels and celebrity-packed after parties all came to a close on Sunday, November 14 with a prestigious awards ceremony at the SVA Theater in Manhattan, following the closing night film \u201cCooking with Stella.\u201d The longest-running, most prestigious Indian film festival in the country, the <strong>Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council (MIAAC) Film Festival<\/strong>, recognized noteworthy directing, writing, and acting in the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best Picture<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cThe Well (Vihir)\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Actor<\/strong> \u2013 Ajay Naidu, \u201cAshes\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Actress<\/strong> \u2013 Seema Biswas, \u201cCooking with Stella\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Director<\/strong> \u2013 Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, \u201cShor\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Screenplay<\/strong> \u2013 Rituparno Ghosh, \u201cMemories in March\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Documentary<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cGanesh, Boy Wonder,\u201d Director Srinivas Krishna<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best Short Film<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cCharulata\u2026A Sequel\u2026of the Life Untold!\u201d Director Sangeeta Padmanabhan<\/li>\n<li><strong>NYU @ MIAAC:<\/strong> Mobile Bollywood \u2013 Directors: Anna South, Casey Knight, and Raymond Wei <\/li>\n<li><strong>Special Achievement Award for Significant Contribution to the Globalization of Indian Music<\/strong> \u2013 presented to Oscar and Grammy-award winning composer A.R. Rahman and accepted by director Mani Ratnam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The jury comprised of some of the most well-known critics, actors, directors, and academics in world cinema including:  Claus Mueller, Kathleen Carroll, Jerry Carlson, Madhur Jaffrey, Parag Amladi, Ashish Avikunthak, Vinay Chowdhry, Udayan Gupta, Poorna Jagannathan, Kavery Kaul, Joseph Mathew-Varghese, Zenobia Shroff, Ingrid Scheib-Rothbart, Parvez Sharma, Rahul Bose, Wayne Sharpe, and Nilita Vachani.  <\/p>\n<p>Celebrities who attended the 10th annual festival included:  <strong>Mani Ratnam, Suhasini Maniratnam, Mira Nair,  Dilip Mehta, Seema Biswas, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Madhur Jaffrey, Ekta Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Padma Lakshmi, Rahul Bose, Salman Rushdie, Aasif Mandvi, Samrat Chakrabarti, Manu Narayan, Tannishtha Chatterjeee, Seema Biswas, Ajay Naidu, Arun Vaidyanathan, Sarita Choudhry, Sanjoy Nag, Srijit Mukherjee<\/strong>, and many others.<\/p>\n<p>Asiance attended and would recommend the following films: <strong>\u201cAshes&#8221;, &#8220;Japanese wife&#8221;
