Competition has been heating up in the region’s medical tourism arena, as countries like Taiwan have been opening up accessibility for local and international investors to the sector.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Some players in Singapore are taking on a different strategy, and that is to expand satellite clinics in the region to help bring customers back to Singapore.<\/p>\n

Singapore is just a 5-hour flight away for some 2 billion people and according to the Asian Centre for Liver Disease and Transplantation (ACLDT), this is one of the factors that keep it competitive as a medical tourism hub.<\/p>\n

For the financial year 2010, ACLDT recorded a 15 per cent increase in revenue. And with extensive growth plans, the centre is targeting growth of 15 to 20 per cent for the next five to 10 years. The company said some 95 per cent of its patients now come from overseas.<\/p>\n
