She is originally from Middletown, New Jersey and loves the movie Garden State. Some things that make her cheer are Star Magazine, YouTube, Honey Grahams and her dog Bella! In the new millennium, the cheerleaders glamorized their look with shiny white boots and Rhinestoned uniforms. The squad has gone international as they have traveled and performed across the globe, shooting swimsuit calendars, performing on military tours and helping in local communities. They have been voted the sexiest cheerleaders in the NFL and continue to captivate audiences through modern media. The cheerleaders are under the direction of Emily Newton Snow, a former four-year member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

ASIANCE: What inspired you to become an NFL Cheerleader?

Ever since I was 3 years old I’ve been doing gymnastics and cheerleading. Once I graduated college, I didn’t want to stop. I moved down to Florida and my husband suggested that I try out for the Dolphins. I did, and now I’m in love with it!

Keep up your appearance on a daily basis, not just when you have a big event.

Truly of the Miami Dolphins

ASIANCE: What background do you have that contributed to your success as a professional cheerleader?

I cheered for my middle school, an All-Star team all throughout high school, and cheered for my college, and now I am finishing my second year as a Miami Dolphins cheerleader.

ASIANCE: Did you get any resistance from your family as this occupation bucks traditional Asian family values?

I have been very blessed to have a strong support group, including my family and friends. Everyone has been so wonderful throughout every aspect of tryouts, practices, appearances, games and workouts. This year my mom wouldn’t go to bed until she voted for me 1,000 times online!

ASIANCE: When did you realize you wanted to be a Dolphins Cheerleader?

When I moved to Florida the summer of 2008, I realized I didn’t want to stop being part of a team. I’ve been cheerleading my whole life and I didn’t want to stop just because I graduated from college. Once I began Dolphins Cheerleader prep-classes, I knew this was where I wanted to be. It’s been an experience of a lifetime!

ASIANCE: Who is your favorite current Dolphins player?

Last year my favorite Dolphins player was Jason Taylor, but after moving to the Jets, I would say my favorite player would be Ricky Williams. He’s been with the Dolphins for 7 years as a Running Back and was name 2009’s MVP; ranks 2nd in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns; not to mention that I have met him several times at appearances and events, and he is extremely polite and community oriented.

Truly of Miami

ASIANCE: What cheerleader(s) do you admire?

This might sound cheesy, but I admire my entire squad! There are 40 of us and we all work, practice, and dance with so much dedication and persistence. Making the squad is not an easy accomplishment, so I really do admire each dancer and have learned a lot from everyone.

ASIANCE: Tell us something most people don’t know about you.

I love anything adventurous and thrilling. I’ve gone skydiving, bridge jumping, cliff diving, white water rafting… I love it all!

ASIANCE: What is the greatest accomplishment in your life thus far?

Besides making the Dolphins for the past two years, I would say my greatest accomplishment would be marrying my best friend, Jonathan! We’ve been married for a little over a year and it’s been the most amazing time of my life.

ASIANCE: Name three words that describe you.

Outgoing, personable and a great friend!

ASIANCE: If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?

It would be two people, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I’ve been obsessed with them since they were on Full House! Now I think they are savvy business women with a great sense of style.

ASIANCE: What is your favorite activity to do in Miami.

There is so much to do in Miami, but my favorite part is going to the beach. A perfect day would be laying out with friends, getting tan, and going swimming to cool off, and then shopping after.

ASIANCE: What is your best feature?

This is a tricky question. I think if you ask any girl, they will always be the hardest critics on themselves. I would have to say that my legs are my best feature. I am 5’ 8”, and for an Asian, that is tall!

ASIANCE: What is the most adventurous thing you have done?

A few of the Dolphins Cheerleaders and myself had the opportunity to go Sky Diving with the Golden Knights Army. I would say jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet is pretty adventurous!

ASIANCE: What is the best part about being a Dolphins Cheerleader?

Game day, definitely. We practice for months and months, but when game day comes it’s all worth it. Waiting in the tunnel to go out of the field to perform our pre-game field routine is the best feeling. There are literally thousands of eyes on you and you feel like a star!

ASIANCE: Do you think that Asian/Asian American Women are finally making strides on the professional cheerleading squads?

Yes, because as generations pass, people become more and more accepting. I think we’re in a time where everyone is accepted equally and is proved through the diversity of their squad. We have girls from all over the world, Cuba, China, even Alaska!

ASIANCE: What was the worst pickup line you have ever heard?

I thought it was a joke, but the guy was very serious when he checked the back of my shirt and said “Just what I thought, made in Heaven.”

ASIANCE: Can you tell us about a crazy fan/stalker incident?

The only incident that was a little out of the ordinary was when I was doing an appearance and I had someone come up to me who told me they knew I had an appearance there, but didn’t know what time- so he waited for me since 9:00AM, and my appearance didn’t start until 1:00PM!

ASIANCE: Where do you hope your NFL Cheerleading experience will lead you to?

My dream job is to become a news anchor or TV personality. My role model is Giuliana Rancic from E-News! I hope that one day I can make this a reality and gain as much experience through being in the public eye and media.

ASIANCE: You all look so gorgeous on the field. How do you manage to look so perfectly coiffed throughout the routines and in all types of weather?

We don’t just practice our dance, we practice how we look. Every practice we have our make-up and hair fully done. That way we can make mental notes “that lipstick doesn’t stay; or my hair falls out when it’s curled…” We tweak and perfect each practice, so by the time it’s Game Day, we look great for the 4 hours we are performing on the field.

ASIANCE: Do you have any “beauty secrets” that you can share with our readers?

Keep up your appearance on a daily basis, not just when you have a big event. Always make sure your nails are clean and polished, your hair is washed, and you have an overall presentable appearance. My secret is to think, “Someone is always watching me” – and I don’t want to give a bad impression by my looks or how I act.

ASIANCE: What advice do you have for young girls aspiring to become NFL Cheerleaders?

Don’t give up – if you want something bad enough, work for it and make it happen. Nothing is handed to you by luck. Work hard, practice long, and have fun the whole time.

This is Truly’s 2nd year with the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders.
