Call it the Born Identity. The power of one just got a new meaning as babies were brought forth into the world, just so eager parents could exult in this fancy and unique birthday for their young ones \u2014 1.11.11. And Shakespeare was right, after all, about people being born great: hours after their entry, even before they opened their eyes, cameras flashed on their little pink faces. The Page 3 baby was born.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

The trend of customized births for this year kicked off on Saturday. Hospitals across the city had deliveries scheduled on the first day of the decade. Some were normal deliveries that just happily coincided with the date. But there were others who had deliberated and planned the birth on this particular date, despite doctors dissuading them from advancing or delaying births. <\/p>\n

Many wanted finer details too, like the hour \u2014 so gynaecologists were kept busy at 1am, 11am, 1pm and 11pm. Parents took this extra step to ensure that their baby’s birth date would consist of only the digit 1. In Manipal Hospital, two deliveries happened at 1am, four at 11am, one at 1pm and more were scheduled at 11pm. <\/strong><\/p>\n

For many, it was just the fascination with the number. For others, it was the belief that the day held something auspicious.<\/strong> “The doctor said there was no chance of a normal delivery. And we had to choose a date. We believe in horoscope, and my father is good at astrology. He said this was an auspicious day and the nakshatra was good \u2014 the child would get a good education and be active. The doctor was also comfortable with this date,” said Mohit Saradhay, an IBM employee and proud papa.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

The odds are good and hopefully the goods will be odd!<\/p>\n
