Which country is the world\u2019s leading economic power?<\/p>\n

Almost half of Americans (47%) think it\u2019s China, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, while only 31% think the United States is still out front.<\/p>\n

Game over. No wonder China comes out top in a list of countries representing the \u201cgreatest danger\u201d to the U.S., just above North Korea \u2014 and well above Iran \u2014 in the same poll. <\/p>\n

In fact, the U.S. economy is about three times the size of China\u2019s in nominal terms, and its GDP per capita is roughly 10 times bigger. However, when it comes to perceptions of China in America, facts apparently don\u2019t matter. Ahead of President Obama\u2019s meeting next week with his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, the one statistic everybody is looking at is the alarming unemployment rate, hovering just below 10%.<\/strong> For China, it\u2019s around 4%.<\/p>\n

Americans are worried about jobs, and China is widely perceived as stealing them, through mercantilist trade policies<\/strong>, an undervalued currency and other underhanded methods.<\/strong> The same poll finds that 53% of respondents think the U.S. should get tougher with China.<\/p>\n

I think that the U.S. needs to step up to the plate and fight harder to stay in the competition rather than to point the finger! Global rivalry is healthy and will force the Country to get stronger. Look at how well IBM and Apple are doing. What is your opinion?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
