Clinton speech on China relations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that the U.S.- China relationship does not fall \u201cneatly into black-and-white categories like \u2018friend\u2019 or \u2018rival.\u2019<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinton, assessing the important relationship in a speech in advance of China President Hu Jintao\u2019s visit to Washington next week, acknowledged that in President Obama\u2019s first two years in office, the two countries have had \u201csome early successes, but also some frustrations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>She said the U.S. goal with China will be to build a \u201cpositive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship.\u201d But she conceded that the two countries will continue to have disagreements, growing from \u201cprofoundly different political systems and outlooks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" class=\"youtube-player\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"480\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yv4qLYCE3XI\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She said China needed to overcome \u201cits reluctance at times to join us in building a stable and transparent military-to-military relationship.\u201d The military has been one of the Chinese institutions most wary of the United States, and has often preferred to keep the Pentagon at arm\u2019s length.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>It was a very important speech in case any one missed it.<\/p>\n<p><a
