{"id":7271,"date":"2011-01-15T19:01:45","date_gmt":"2011-01-15T19:01:45","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-01-16T17:01:44","modified_gmt":"2011-01-16T17:01:44","slug":"Is-Asia-Ready-for-Modern-Dance-","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=7271","title":{"rendered":"Is Asia Ready for Modern Dance?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This weekend, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre\u2019s Grand Theatre will host the last performances in Asia of the storied Merce Cunningham Dance Company, which is preparing to dissolve after 58 years.<\/p>\n<p>But the significance of these final shows seems lost on Hong Kong. As of Thursday, the day before opening night, tickets at every price point were still available for both the Friday and Saturday shows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt should be a huge deal \u2014 it\u2019s an incredible opportunity to see something that will never happen again,\u201d <\/strong>says Michelle Vosper, the Hong Kong representative for the New York-based Asian Cultural Council, which provided financial support for the company\u2019s first Asia trip, back in 1964. <strong>\u201cI think it\u2019s actually very embarrassing if the house is not sold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong is the only Asian stop on the tour, which is hitting more than 40 cities world-wide.
