They are the ones who buy the books\u2013 and they usually want their sons and daughters to learn, rather than just enjoy a fairy tale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bizarre result is that when it comes to children\u2019s books in India, there\u2019s much more nonfiction than playful fantasy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that sells is nonfiction,\u201d said Sayoni Basu, editor of children\u2019s publishing house Scholastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents don\u2019t want their children to read about teddies,\u201d said Jerry Pinto, who writes about both Bollywood screen sirens and stuffed animals. His last book for children was \u201cA Bear for Felicia\u201d (2008).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead, parents are often drawn to simplified versions of seminal texts, which are some of the biggest sells.
