For the Chinese, Lunar New Year is also a time to share and help the less-fortunate and one philanthropist has tied-up with private Chinese schools in Kuala Lumpur to start a calligraphy charity campaign.<\/p>\n

The aim is to raise some US$70,000 to pay for the education of the less fortunate. At one of the schools taking part in the campaign, the Confucius Private Chinese School in downtown Kuala Lumpur, hundreds of students are celebrating the Chinese New year by taking part in the charity campaign. <\/p>\n

Not only will the students help to raise funds for poor Chinese students in the country, they will also learn about Chinese calligraphy which is an integral part of Chinese culture.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong-born celebrity, Chelsia Chen, is the main sponsor of this month-long charity campaign. The 53-year-old philanthropist, who’s married to Malaysian-Chinese tycoon William Chen, started learning calligraphy seven years ago. Since then, she has been able to raise over US$15,000 from the sale of her art pieces.<\/p>\n
