It has a population of seven million. About 80% of households have a broadband Internet connection, and residents, on average, own nearly two mobile phones each.  But in reality, the city\u2019s social-media scene is lackluster, with relatively low user rates.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Social Media Week is intending to change that. Seminars and talks will bring together Hong Kong\u2019s online community in various venues around the city this week. This is the only stop in Asia in the event\u2019s two-year history. (The Wall Street Journal Asia is a sponsor of the event.)<\/p>\n<p>The global conference \u2014 which began as a New York-only event in 2009 and has since been held in 11 cities including London, Milan and Sao Paulo \u2014 has brought in as past speakers the people behind Facebook and Foursquare as well as Roots band member ?uestlove.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the featured guests at Hong Kong\u2019s Social Media Week include Frank Rose, author of \u201cThe Art of Immersion\u201d and a contributing editor at Wired magazine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/hong-kong\/2011\/02\/08\/social-media-week-checks-into-hong-kong\/\" title=\"SOURCE\">SOURCE<\/a><br \/>\n<!--break--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hong Kong\u2019s digital landscape seems primed for a robust social-media scene.
