British historical drama “The King’s Speech” was crowned with the best film Oscar at the climax of the movie industry’s 83rd Academy Awards show. The British royals drama took a total of four Oscars at the ceremony after going into the event with a leading 12 nominations.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

The film about the efforts of the future King George VI to overcome a stammer beat other contenders including “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” “Inception,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “127 Hours,” “The Social Network,” “Toy Story 3,” “True Grit” and “Winter’s Bone”. The movie’s lead Colin Firth took the key Best Actor award, as was expected for the 50-year-old veteran of the screen and stage, whose acclaimed portrayal of the King George VI swept various awards leading up to the Oscars.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Edged out for the Oscar for Best Actor were Javier Bardem for “Biutiful” , Jeff Bridges for “True Grit”; Jesse Eisenberg for “The Social Network”; and Oscar host James Franco for “127 Hours.” British filmmaker Tom Hopper won the Academy Award for directing “The King’s Speech,” his third feature film. Hooper, for whom it had been his first Oscar nomination, was an award-winning TV program maker before a big-screen career including 2009’s with the soccer movie “The Damned United”, starring Michael Sheen. “The King’s Speech” tells the story of how King George VI overcame a stammer helped by an Australian voicecoach.<\/strong> <\/p>\n
