{"id":8072,"date":"2011-03-22T02:03:55","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T02:03:55","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-03-22T02:03:55","modified_gmt":"2011-03-22T02:03:55","slug":"-Uncle-Boonmee-Wins-AFA-Best-Picture-Award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=8072","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Uncle Boonmee\u2019 Wins AFA Best Picture Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Thai film that mixes contemplations on life, death and reincarnation won best film at the Asian Film Awards ceremony on Monday night in Hong Kong, but the event was overshadowed by the recent earthquake in Japan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives\u201d from director Apichatpong Weerasethakul won over five nominated films including two box-office hits from China: \u201cAftershock\u201d and \u201cLet the Bullets Fly.\u201d  It was the first Thai movie to be named best film at the Asian Film Awards, now in its fifth year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. Apichatpong thanked the jury for honoring his \u201cvery small film,\u201d and he called on the Asian film industry to continue to \u201ccreate great, great stories for the future.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives &#8211;
