Hollywood stars with Asian roots<\/strong> joined a fund raising event on on Friday to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross Society<\/strong> following the March 11 earthquake and tsumani that hit Japan.<\/p>\n

More than one hundred people attended the occasion organized by the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment<\/strong>, the biggest Asian-American professional<\/strong> entertainment industry organization in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Among the celebrities who graced the event were \u201cStar Trek\u201d star George Takei and actress-beauty queen Kelly Hu.<\/p>\n

“The need is great and the suffering is even greater and so we got to respond,” sad Takei.<\/p>\n

“It’s a cause that, of course, I could have not said no to…we need to run to their aid,” Hu said.<\/p>\n

Also there was Filipino-American singer Tia Carrere<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Although she did not perform, Carrere went there to donate her personal things for the Silent Auction.<\/p>\n

“You know, whatever you can. Just showing up [to] your support and going to the Silent Auction table. You know, these are the little things we can do and help. It all adds up,” she said.<\/p>\n

Filipino-American actor Alec Mapa, on the other hand, has showed off his skills as a comedian.<\/p>\n

“I’m glad and I’m honored and grateful to be able to lend my support,” he said.<\/p>\n

All the proceeds that was generated from the event will directly be donated to the American Red Cross, which will then transfer the funds to the Japanese Red Cross Society.<\/p>\n
