The Web version of this year\u2019s revamped Midas List of technology\u2019s top investors has plenty going on: the ranking of 100 venture capitalists, a profile page on each, a cover profile on Accel Partners\u2019 Jim Breyer by Nicole Perlroth, a Q&A with 8 leading VCs, a video interview with Mike Maples and a explanation of our methodology used to compile the list with help from our partners at TrueBridge Capital and Dow Jones\u2019 Venture Source.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s missing is some of the raw data about the list and about venture capital as an asset class. (The 2000s was a mostly mediocre decade for venture; it underperformed conventional private equity and over the last 10 years merely kept pace with the Nasdaq.)<\/p>\n
So I wanted to reproduce online the data page below, which appeared in the print package of the Midas list (cover date Apr. 25). I figured this way at least some of our 18-million-odd Web readers who don\u2019t get the magazine can see what we\u2019re doing with these data pages. They\u2019re rapidly becoming a go-to template for us to flesh out our many lists (Best Bosses, Billionaires) and tell news stories in a data-centric way, like we did with Japan\u2019s nuclear crisis in the Focus section of the Apr. 11 issue.<\/p>\n
