{"id":8712,"date":"2011-05-06T04:05:58","date_gmt":"2011-05-06T04:05:58","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-05-06T04:05:40","modified_gmt":"2011-05-06T04:05:40","slug":"Los-Angeles-Asian-Pacific-Film-Festival-Recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiancemagazine.com\/?p=8712","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2011 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival celebrated the closing night of their 27th Anniversary edition on Thursday night with the screening of the Taiwanese romantic comedy \u201cLove In Disguise\u201d by Leehom Wang and the announcement of this year\u2019s jury prizes.<br \/>\nFilmmaker Ian Gamazon took home both the Grand Jury Prize for Outstanding Fiction Film and Outstanding Director award for his film \u201cLiving in Seduced Circumstances,\u201d while actors Eric Mabius, Fernando Noriega, Will Yun Lee and Luke Brandon Field were singled out with a Best Ensemble Acting Award for their performances in \u201cWhere the Road Meets the Sun\u201d directed by Mun Chee Yong.<br \/>\nLiving in Seduced Circumstances<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QGArZ3JNUeA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nWhere the Road Meets the Sun<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7oWmp2rrnKs\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nOther narrative film awards given out included Outstanding Screenplay to writer\/director Stephane Gauger for \u201cSaigon Electric;\u201d Outstanding Cinematography to Gavin Kelly for \u201cWhere the Road Meets the Sun;\u201d and a Special Jury Award for Breakout  Performance by a New Actor to Ryan Greene for his role in \u201cOne Kine Day\u201d.<br \/>\nSaigon Electric<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YvINge7mUZg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nOne Kine Day<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/69AdmsBHTwM\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nFirst time filmmaker Byron Q received the Best First Film Award for his dramatic \u201cBang Bang.\u201d<br \/>\nBang Bang<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/858FSbrgqS8\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe winning audience favorite awards went to \u201cRakenrol\u201d from Quark Henares for fave fiction film and to \u201cAmong B-Boys\u201d from Christopher Woon for favorite documentary.<br \/>\nRakenrol<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NG49FE6WSYU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nAmong B-Boys<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"480\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/I0iiaSQVYpA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nIn the documentary jury competition, \u201cThe House of Suh\u201d from Iris K. Shim received both the Grand Jury Prize for Outstanding Non-Fiction Film and the Outstanding Director Award.<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jFtKATa55gA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n\u201cOne Big Hapa Family\u201d directed by Jeff Chiba Stearns also took home two awards for Outstanding Cinematography to Jason Woodford and for Outstanding Editing to Chiba Stearns.<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/obK72DlHt_c\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe jury awarded a Special Jury Prize for Human Rights to \u201cFinding Face\u201d directed by Skye Fitzgerald and Patti Duncan which chronicles the details of the controversial case of rising star Tat Marina who was attacked with acid in Cambodia in 1999.<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"480\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/77MYny6Jxb4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nShort films this year were in abundance with 148 shorts being screened at the festival.  The film \u201cTEAMWORK\u201d from Hong Seo Yun was the recipient of the Golden Reel Award, while Soham Mehta was honored with the Linda Mabalot New Directors\/New Visions award for his film \u201cFirecracker.\u201d<br \/>\n<iframe width=\"500\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3YEwfuq9SJU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe 2011 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival kicked off on April 28 with the Justin Lin action film \u201cFast Five\u201d and has seen record-breaking attendance and multiple sold out shows throughout the past seven days.  The Fest will conclude May 6 and May 7 with encore screenings of award winners along with the Los Angeles premiere of \u201cBangkok Knockout\u201d from Thailand and the Sundance\/Berlin Film Festival favorite \u201cBoy\u201d from Taika Waititi at the CGV Cinemas in KoreaTown, Los Angeles.  CGV Cinemas are located at 621 S. Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA  90005.
