While Indian films have not managed to be part of the main competition at the Cannes International Film Festival, Bollywood’s presence is definitely growing<\/strong> there.<\/p>\n

This year, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Freida Pinto, Sonam Kapoor, Karan Johar, Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan<\/strong> will be present as brand ambassadors for various festival sponsors.<\/p>\n

Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan<\/strong>, who completes a decade at the Cannes, walked the red carpet last night, the opening day of the festival. Sonam Kapoor<\/strong> will walk the red carpet on May 15. Freida Pinto<\/strong> will be present at the American Foundation for AIDS Research on May 19.<\/p>\n

Sonam said, “I am looking forward to meeting the actors and filmmakers and attending screenings of some interesting films.”<\/p>\n

Also at Cannes, the ministry of information and broadcasting and tourism are hosting the ‘Indian Pavilion’<\/strong> through NFDC (National Film Development Corporation). The India Pavilion will release a category_ide consisting of companies and delegates in Cannes from India<\/strong>, co-production treaties signed, international film festivals and category_idelines on filming in India. Also NFDC will be promoting six directors\u2014Dibakar Bannerjee, Anurag Kashyap, Laxmikant Shetgaokar, Haobam Paban Kumar, Shekhar Kammula and Anusha Rizvi. The Marathi film, Gabhricha Paus, will be screened at the festival. <\/p>\n
