Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, which aims to bring films about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities to mainstream cinemas, will begin Wednesday evening with a line-up of 124 films from almost two dozen countries. The word \u201ckashish\u201d means \u201cattraction or allurement\u201d in Urdu, though not necessarily only of a sexual or romantic nature.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A scene from the movie \u2018Elene Undone,\u2019 one of the films to be screened at the festival.\u201cEarlier, these screenings used to take place in cultural centers but for the first time Kashish is bringing these films on the big screen. Films will be screened at multiplex theaters,\u201d Sridhar Rangayan, festival director, told India Real Time. The films will also be screened at the city\u2019s Alliance Fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis time we have put a lot of focus on the quality of story telling,\u201d he said, adding that they have tried to make sure the movies represent a broad spectrum of the queer community. For instance, last year they did not have any film on bisexuals, but this year they do, he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n
