The test results was released late on Wednesday.

The government said Tuesday the boy, who had chicken pox prior to his death, was “very likely” a victim of scarlet fever, after declaring an outbreak of the disease in the city of seven million.

Classes have been suspended at the boy’s kindergarten for a week, a first for Hong Kong following a scarlet fever death.

The second fatality comes after the illness, which mainly affects children aged between two and eight, claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl last month.

Hong Kong is particularly nervous about infectious diseases following the 2003 SARS outbreak, which killed 300 people in the city and a further 500 worldwide.

The densely populated city of seven million has also seen fatalities from multiple swine flu outbreaks.

In Macau, a short ferry ride from Hong Kong, 49 people have contracted the illness but there are no fatalities so far this year, according to Macau health authorities.

Scarlet fever symptoms include fever, sore throat, rashes and a “strawberry coloured” tongue, and usually subside within 48 hours with appropriate antibiotic treatment.

Source AFP

Hong Kong, today, confirmed a five-year-old boy had died from scarlet fever, the second death in the southern Chinese city

[1

post-9396","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
"1536x1536":"https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg","2048x2048":"https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg
"colormag-elementor-block-extra-large-thumbnail":"https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg
https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg
https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg","colormag-elementor-grid-medium-large-thumbnail":"https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg
Admin
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/53e6cdc30765aade0129f85e5aeb50124b1d3f5bb9a70373be31e4eb328371e0?s=96&d=mm&r=g
2
Hong Kong, today, confirmed a five-year-old boy had died from scarlet fever, the second death in the southern Chinese city
News
["https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg",113,170,false
https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u.jpg",113,170,false
https://asiancemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/u-113x150.jpg",113,150,true
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/53e6cdc30765aade0129f85e5aeb50124b1d3f5bb9a70373be31e4eb328371e0?s=96&d=mm&r=g
["GET
