Shanghai International Film Festival is held in June every year. The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from Saturday June 13 to Sunday June 21, 2009. China’s only A-list film festival, SIFF 2009 is bigger than ever, with Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) presiding over the festival’s main event, the Golden Cup (Jin Jue) competition. In addition, there’s a packed schedule of events, with countless screenings and retrospectives, masterclasses, film markets (for distributors) and movie forums taking place throughout the city.

A red carpet opening ceremony at the Shanghai Grand Theater which drew out plenty of domestic and international cinema stars.

In addition to the 16 films in competition for the Jin Jue Award, SIFF will present nine additional new films for the Asian New Talent Award, featuring emerging talents from China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, The Philippines, India and Iran.
