The International Olympic Committee executive board recommended Thursday that golf and rugby sevens be included among the sports in the 2016 Olympics. A final decision by the full IOC will be made October 9 at Copenhagen.

“I hope it will pass in October and it will truly be an Olympic sport,” said Woods. “It has been overdue for golf. It’s truly a global sport.”

Woods, who would be 40 at the time of the 2016 Summer Olympics, said Tuesday he would play Olympic golf barring an unlikely early retirement and his support was credited as a key factor in golf getting the nod over rival sports.
