Chinese Toddler Who Was Run Over Twice Dies

A toddler who stirred a national debate on compassion after being run over twice by vans and left lying in a market street in southern China has died a week after the incident, hospital officials in Guangzhou said on Friday.

The two-year-old girl, Wang Yueyue, died early Friday morning of brain and organ failure, the head of he intensive care unit at Guangzhou Military District General Hospital, Su Lei, told news services. A wrenching surveillance camera video showed the girl being struck by a van and lying in the street, ignored or unnoticed by 18 cyclists and other passers-by even after a second van struck her. A rag collector eventually came to her aid.

The video of the incident spread rapidly on China’s microblogs, prompting hundreds of thousands of posts on whether China had lost its morality and sense of compassion in its rush to modernity. Word of the child’s death sparked a fresh round of microblog posts on Friday. Both drivers were later detained, but it was unclear what charges they might face, The Associated Press reported.

It is sickening that the witnesses had no time at all to come to a toddler’s aid. The death of this two-year old girl may very well have been spared had anyone taken action immediately. Leaving her to lie there like road kill enabling a second van to strike her! This is the most evil and uncivilized behavior imaginable. Karma does exist and those who chose to let this happen will receive back in turn from the Universe some form of what they exhibited during this tragedy. Unlike this accident, the laws of the Universe cannot be ignored. Wang Yueyue did not die in vain. Her legacy will propose new laws to protect innocent victims and create a civilized society that never existed before.

My heart goes out to this poor little girl’s family!

Thank you. I take that you meant brains and transposed the letters as bairns is not a word. Unfortunately, Wang Yueyue was not the only victim. Even after countless posts like mine, another horrific traffic incident took place in China. The reaction to the incident is mind-blowing and it is business as usual.

I hope that everyone will take a moment out of their busy day to say a little prayer for both Wang Yueyue and Xiong Maoke and light a candle for them. I have great hope for the improvement of the human race; especially in China where changes need to be made pronto!
