Anna Sui and her Asian loves!

Fashion’s cognoscenti and glitterati came out last month to Cipriani Wall Street to celebrate Fashion Group International’s annual Night of Stars donning glamorous couture to toast “The Luminaries” and those who have made a difference last year in the industry. While there was no shortage of celebrities & designers – we spotted Jessica Biel, Oscar de La Renta, Lee Lee Sobieski, Dylan Lauren, Lauren Bush, David Lauren, Francisco Costa, Oliver Theyskens, David Byrne, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough from Proenza, Laura and Kate Mulleavy from Rodarte, Isabel & Ruben Toledo, during the cocktail hour Asiance had a chance to catch up with one of our favorite designers, Anna Sui!

Asiance: What are you wearing?

Anna: All Anna Sui with an Alexander McQueen fur vest.

Asiance: What markets are you focusing on in Asia?

Anna: We’re sold throughout Asia – Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Malaysia.

Asiance: What do you think of the fashion over there?

Anna: It’s amazing. I think there are such devotees to fashion over there. It’s so international and I think that people love dressing up there. It’s a little more formal it’s not as casual as it is here.

Asiance: Is there an area in Asia that is an upcoming area that we should look out for?

Anna: I was just in India and to me it’s just booming. It’s so exciting!! I think you’re going to see great things there. And there are so many interesting designers there.

Asiance: Do you have a favorite Asian designer?

Anna: I just met Manish Arora. I just saw his shop in New Delhi. That was exciting! He’s doing Paco Rabanne now too.
