Everytime I see one, I point it out – IR Radar

Hello Asiance!

I’m pretty sure I do this every time I see an IR couple, I have to point it out. I’m not the only one either. When my boyfriend and I were walking to the movies one day, out of my peripheral I see another Asian girl motioning and leaning in to tell her boyfriend (who’s Black) something, looking our way. My boyfriend tells me that it’s no big deal, but to me it’s like a personal win. Maybe because we live in an area where it’s rare to see these couplings or maybe because it’s a beautiful thing. I know it’s not technically a big deal, but it feels good that we’re not alone. Especially when we get tons of stares other times.

As much as I want others to not point out the racial differences in my own relationship, telling people it’s not a big deal to be in an IR relationship, I in turn do the same to others in IR relationships. I’m pretty sure they don’t like to be stared down by me. It’s like a personal radar that I have that goes off – hey, there’s another one! Don’t think I’ll ever be able to turn it off.

Most of the stares are probably to view the smile you’re wearing…..
