Marisa Sung’s Rules of Etiquette for the Modern World Number 29

Thou Shalt not recruit me into your “cult.” I cannot tell you how many times “holy rollers” would try to recruit me into their “Spiritual Group.” It is both scary and creepy! I felt like “Rosemary” in “Rosemary’s Baby” being pulled into the cult by her crazy next door neighbors. Almost as creepy as Facebook and LinkedIn stalking my every move in an effort to make me “one of them”! 🙁

Rosemary’s Baby

I also have a friend who is always quoting the Bible to strangers of different religious/spiritual backgrounds. I am of the Christian Faith but I also practice Transcendental Meditation and am interested in Buddhism, Hinduism, Kabbalah and Judaism. I sometimes like to read quotes from the Bible and I love Bible stories which I share with fellow members of my Church-(The Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan) who are also interested and engaged in that activity. However, it is never appropriate to push another religion or meditation/eastern medicine practices on individuals of different religious backgrounds. Devout Catholics, in particular get very insulted when these followers push the Meditation and/or advise them against taking all medications! TCM is great but it is being marketed as the “geritol” of our generation. People who suffer from severe depression or bi-polar illness for example, should never be told to stop all medication and just meditate. Meditation helps and improves your outlook and lifestyle but it is not the cure all pill that it is currently being marketed as. Furthermore, it is against many religions to participate in meditation practices. Therefore, it is appropriate to share that practice only with people who are open to it and express interest. The same goes for the Bible and Bible Quotes. We all have to be very tolerant and learn to respect the differences in others. Just like our daily manners, what is polite in one culture can be considered very rude in another! 🙂

Yes it is! WTF are you talking about! I come here to get my rocks off! Because I’m Superbad!

I turn this song up so loud when I’m in bed and have a guest with me. He has to look at me and sing this song to me or no play!

Superbad, I just added that to my playlist, get it?? You are so funny Nancy. Great video. I never saw that one before. If Asiance is a cult then you are the Cult Leader!

That phony social climbing feminist Arianna Huffington also became a cult member. She is only successful because she married the oil magnate who everyone knew was gay. She wanted the money and the status so she married him anyway. She was a disciple of the Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, whose cult practiced open sexual intercourse among its members, and with its leader, as a central sacrament of their faith. This cult later moved to America’s West Coast and attempted to take over an Oregon town. Bhagwan devotees were directed to purchase what eventually became 139 white Rolls Royces for their leader. As Judith Miller and two other New York Times investigative reporters recounted in their 2001 book Germs: Biological Weapons and America’s Secret War, the Rajneesh cult spread potentially lethal Salmonella bacteria in this town. Rajneesh cult members did this as a way of infecting and incapacitating town residents on election day so that cult voters could win control of the local government. The Bhagwan died in 1990 so now she follows the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, another cult leader who died a few years ago. He was even richer and had more Rolls Royces than Bhagwan. Although I am an avid fan of Transcendental Meditation, he is not the one to get credit. It is actually a Buddhist Monk! The Maharishi used celebrities, marketing and public relations to capitalize on the vulnerability of the human race in order to make himself a fortune=people are so damn naïve! The Maharishi was also accused on several occasions of trying to have sex with his female members! Businessman and religion don’t mix!

She left the retreat early because he tried to have sex with her too! 🙁
