Marisa Sung’s Rules of Etiquette for the Modern World Number 41

Please don’t wear your food! šŸ™ I have been in countless situations with co-workers and bosses where I would be talking into a food stained shirt and tie. Let’s face it, most men are slobs! They run these successful businesses and want to ensure that their employees are “poised, professional and presentable” enough to meet and greet their valued high net worth clients and yet they walk around blowing smoke in your face with cigar breath and wearing their lunch for the meeting. Go figure? I actually used to have extra ties in my drawer for one of my bosses at a Fortune 500 Company! I practically had to wipe this guy’s ass. I would tell him what to eat, make him change his tie, go out and buy him a new shirt at Brooks Brothers across the street, you name it!! He would always look so disheveled and sloppy! Let me tell you, when you spend 10+ hours a day with a high powered master of the universe your real role is that of “MOMMY” and or “WORK WIFE”! There is still hope for all of you yet! I am not giving up on helping these characters going forward! We always comb our hair, brush our teeth, press our clothes and wash our hands each and every day!! I don’t understand how these men are married? The wife lets them leave the house each day looking like an unmade bed and smelling of cigars?? Although, believe it or not in some cases the wife was actually more of a slob than the husband! All of that time and money down the drain! šŸ™

Looking for James Bond at work! Manboys, try to emulate James Bond just a little. Does he show up wrinkled and food stained in any situation?? No, he doesn’t and neither should YOU!

Your work experiences are hilarious and sad at the same time. Thank goodness most people prefer to work from home these days.

Let me tell you, I have seen it all and I’ve been to Hell and back!! My first job was working for a “friend of a family member” who was the rainmaker of a top ten law firm. I used to cringe whenever he came near me. He would sneeze into his hands and then go to touch himself before attempting to give me something or god forbid attempt to touch me!! I actually threw a Blackwell’s at him and slightly missed his head before walking out of the firm. The very best experiences were at foreign banks. UBS was outstanding! However, I take much pride in my appearance, grooming and my workstation cleanliness which is not the case with most employers on “Wall Street.” I actually had to work with women who showed up with messy hair, had a pig pen for a workstation and were always sloppy and wrinkled. These women are actually very successful at these companies too and they have access to the high net worth clients. I was actually embarrassed for them when I had to work with them so I can only imagine what the client’s reaction would be. They all look like a sad version of “Working Girl” before she cleaned up her act! :(I am a bit paranoid because I am a germophobe but I think it has something to do with them coming from the mid-west or the southwestern regions of the Country; outside of the tri-state area. These women have zero fashion sense, die their own hair which comes out horrible (esp. blonde shades) and mix and match colors and patterns that don’t even fit them when they have more than enough money to clean up their act! They simply don’t care! Uniforms would serve these women well! I would expect to see that at a Civil Service Job but not at a wall street firm which is where I witnessed that situation the most! I am working on a novel based on my experiences in Corporate America. It is highly entertaining and the main reason why I love what I am doing now. All of the employees are very sharp, neat, good looking, fit and have a great fashion sense which makes me a very happy camper! Things are much easier for me now mainly because of my Starkey hearing aids and my surflink remote=I am a much happier and more productive camper! They didn’t have a hearing aid for my type of deafness until around 2007. I can only work with mainly Type A Personalities as I am very intense and too focused. In other words, I have zero time or tolerance for fools which I am still trying to work on. I realize now that we can’t all be perfect.
