On Sunday, June 14,2009 Chloe Dao opened up the Houston Chronicle only to find one of her long time LOT 8 customer gracing the cover of the Health section. Dr. Anh Reiss, who is married to Josh Reiss and has two beautiful children, has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome, a type of leukemia. MDS does not cause major symptoms, but Dr. Reiss will need a stem-cell transplant. Some 7 million Americans have signed up to be potential donors. But of those registered with the National Marrow Donor Program, only 15,000 share Reiss’s Vietnamese heritage, which is key to finding a match. No match has yet been found among the 15,000 already registered. As she waits, she must get a blood transfusion every five to six weeks. And every time new blood is introduced to her body, she develops more antibodies which will lead to more difficulties in finding a match.

After reading about Reiss’s need for a donor, Chloe Dao wanted to help. She not only registered herself as a donor but is certified to register others with the National Marrow Donor Program. Ms. Dao has offered her boutique LOT 8 in the Rice Village as a Donor Registration site on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 10am to 7pm. The registration is painless process; it’s only takes a quick swab of the inside of the mouth. In addition to the registration, LOT 8 will donate 15% of the day’s proceeds to the Reiss’s family to help further their search for a match.

We hope everyone comes by LOT 8 on July 18th to support and help save the life of Dr. Anh Reiss. Chloe Dao will be on hand all day to assist with the donor registration.
