Fil-Am artist Dulcie Dee is currently exhibiting her latest World Trade Center mobile at a group art exhibition “ART OF THE CRASH” at the FusionArts Museum Oct 1- Dec 27, 2009

Opening Artist’s reception is Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The Public is welcome to see this unusual multi-disciplinary art exhibit wherein all the artists used a car part to create their artworks.

Dulcie’s mobile is the first of its kind that she created and stands out in the group show as the only mobile that hangs from the ceiling near the front window. When asked by Director Debra Fries as to where she got her car parts from, Dulcie relayed her story:

“I wanted to come up with something different from everyone else. I did not want to use just any car part per say or go to the car junk yard or use miniature cars….I wanted to come up with something different so one day as I biked up the FDR bike path along my usual path I stopped at Ladder 6 to inquire if they had any Fire Engine spare parts and they advised me to go to Ladder 15 on South St.”

“When I arrived at Ladder 15, I announced I am an artist looking for spare fire engine parts to create an artwork for an upcoming art show and if they could help me I would be very grateful. Ladder 15 Fireman Matt was very kind and showed me their supply room with spare parts, gave me a tour of their big Fire Station that housed 8 fire trucks and I saw their memorial room for their deceased Ladder 15 firemen from 911. When I went home with their donated items, I looked at them and wondered how am I going to use all these items for my artwork because they were not flat and not easy to make a 2 dimensional artwork? Then it dawned on me to create a mobile bec then I could hang all the donated items from Ladder 15! I wanted to make something special for their memorial room and plan to invite all the firemen from Ladder 15 to the opening night reception and will donate this mobile to them when the show comes down. To me, this is the “Art Of the Crash””.

Dee’s mobile is dedicated to the WTC firemen especially to those firemen who sacrificed their lives at WTC. Her sentimental mobile is made of: reflectors, nuts and bolts, round rearview mirror, side mirror, wire, mini bulbs, steel chain, tape, paper collage, fishing line, photos of the WTC, text, Austrian Crystal beads, and other objects. All NYFD firemen and their families are invited to come to see Dulcie’s WTC mobile.
