This month’s cover is graced by the famous comedian, Margaret Cho.
I’ve never seen her before, but from these pictures she seems to have beautiful skin.

I wish I could have nice, smooth & soft skin like hers.

Anyway, let me talk about two major points of her make-up for this month:

First, there is the eyeliner!

  • Well, she has typical Asian cool-looking one-line eyes.
The upper line of her eyes is longer than bottom line, and the corner of the eyes is slanting downward.
  • To make her eyes look like they are lifted up, draw the eyeliner thicker at the corner, and sliced up at the end (angled-up toward edge of the eyebrow).
  • The beginning of the line has to start from the inner corner of the eyes (nose side) and outline the edge of the eye along the lash line until just above the pupil. Now, start to draw the line inclining up toward the outside. Later, you have to fill in black between the liner you’ve drawn and your lash line (skin part).
First use a black pencil, then on top of the pencil, use a fude-pen type liquid liner to define lines.
  • For the bottom line, draw the black or dark brown line (pencil or powder shadow) from a point of about 1/3 of the way in from the outer edge of the lower lash line, and connect it to the end of the upper line. (Tip: draw line thinner and softer on the other 2/3 of the bottom line).
  • There must be a triangular no-color space at the corner of the eyes (between top and bottom lines).
  • Fill inside with dark brown pencil or powder and blend with lines.

The second thing is about blush.

  • She has a round face, so apply contour on sides of your cheek to make the face thinner.
  • Apply the contour color with a medium size brush (1′ 1/2 or 2 inch) from the area under the temple and wide side of the cheek bone (side of ears) angled toward the area between tip of nose and above lips. Use bronzer or taupe color if you want to emphasize contour. (Always tap off excess color from the brush to prevent streaks)
  • And use pink, peach or plum color for blush. Sweep it from the upper cheek down across the cheekbone for a gentle flush.

In addition, her red lipcolor is beautiful.
I can recommend some lip colors just like hers as follows:

MAC: Russian Red, Lady Bug, Chili, Eager, Dubonnet

CHANNEL: Lover, Passion

YVES SAINT LAURENT: Red Strass

NARS: Afghan Red

Wishing you a healthy, peaceful and productive year for you all
^_^
Best wishes in 2008!

    Hi Motoko,

Love the make up you did for Margaret Cho! She sure looks very sultry here.

I hope you are still doing your Q&A because I wanted to ask you a sultry make up question!

I’m pretty good at doing natural make up, but it’s the night look that I have more trouble with. I want to go for a more heavy, sexy look but can never quite manage it. My friends just go more heavy on the eyeliner but I have a problem where my eye seems to “eat” the eyeliner (i.e. it disappears…) or perhaps I’m just just not drawing it in thickly enough.

I would also like smoky eyes… I don’t really know how to accomplish this or which products to use. The make up I bought looks perfect in the container, but the color doesn’t really show up on my eye.

I am Asian but I have double fold eyelids. Thanks!
