Chancellor Michelle Rhee engaged to Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson
Well. well. well. Just when we were going to add our interview with Chancellor Michelle Rhee, word comes that she just got engaged to Former Phoenix Sun/Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson.
D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee and Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson are officially engaged to be married, according to the Washington Post.
Rhee, 39, confirmed the news Wednesday at a Democrats for Education Reform/DC School Reform Now event in Washington after observers noticed a ring on her left hand.
The couple have been longtime friends and political allies. To some, the news of their recent engagement comes as no surprise since the couple have been spotted at several events together. But when asked about their relationship, Rhee declined to comment.
Johnson, 43, is Sacramento mayor and ex-Phoenix Sun. NBA star who transitioned into politics as the founder of a charter school. Rhee served on the school’s board before Johnson won his first race last year to become mayor of his home town.
Rhee says she is not leaving D.C. as they’re planning on a long engagement. The couple haven’t set a wedding date.
Outstanding leadership. She has shown a lot of improvements even though her actions are not among the popular ones. I like her. It’s just sad that she had to leave her post. Instead of face off with a new mayor who likely will not support her ideas about education reform, Chancellor of D.C. Public Educational facilities has chosen to resign. According to the Boston Globe, Rhee’s decision was made after discussion with new mayor Vincent Gray. Kaya Henderson, D.C. Public School’s deputy chancellor, will serve through at least the close of the current school year, accounts the Washington Post.
