Don’t compare M.I.A to Lady Gaga
We’re not the only ones who think Lady Gaga is an overrated gimmick. She is not the Modern Madonna.
Speaking to the NME the ‘Paper Planes’ star tore into the would-be hermaphrodite.
“People say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same… “
M.I.A. said.
“She’s not progressive… none of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza disco.”
M.I.A. is due to release her new album this summer, ending a near three year wait for new material. Destined to be one of the year’s most talked about releases, the singer was asked to donate new material to the forthcoming ‘Twilight’ instalment – any idea she immediately kicked into touch.
“They asked me – luckily Jimmy (Lovine, chairman of M.I.A’s US label, Interscope) had beef with the ‘Twilight’ people, so he stepped in and told them to fuck off,”
she said.
Enough said. The only great thing about that Twilight movie was seeing Asian face, Justin Chon….highly overrated movie!
Personally I think both of them are amazing.
MIA is scary cool, I love how she speaks her mind, and she’s totally original in a cross-cultural way, but I’m afraid she’ll never break out of her hip-hop subgenre.
Gaga has vaulted over all contenders and tilted the machine. She is playing a whole different game. Even beyond Madonna. (All Madonna ever did was change her clothes.) I think Gaga is most indebted to persona artists like Marilyn Manson and David Bowie. Her messages are more psychological than lyrical. It’s a totally different game.
Meanwhile, no matter what you think of their musical styles, anyone who thinks these two ladies are similar needs to have their head examined!

JLo (dancing), Madonna, Michael, Billy Joel, Elton..those are real talent..haha! Anyway my opinion..
