Apple Beats Google To Top Twitter’s Technology Trends In 2010

What were technology lovers on Twitter most agog about in 2010? “Apple iPad” ranked No. 1 on Twitter’s list of top Technology Trends in 2010, with “Google Android” coming in second, in Twitter’s just-released Top Trends of 2010.

Apple dominated the rest of the Top 10 Tech Trends list as well: nearly half the terms were Apple-related, including “Apple iOS” (#3), “Apple iPhone” (#4), and “MacBook Air” (#9). “Google Instant”, the company’s new instant search feature, was the only other Google term on the list, coming in at No. 10.

Meanwhile, “New Twitter” makes it on the list at No. 6 — it would be disappointing if something Twitter-related didn’t make it on to Twitter’s on top trends list, no? And videogames get some Twitter love at No. 5 with the bestselling “Call of Duty Black Ops” title.

And if you thought Twitter was only for those obsessed with discussing the latest in technology, think again. on the Overall Top Trends list, only “Apple iPad” and “Google Android” made it on the list, and only mid-pack at Nos. 6 and 7, respectively. At the top of the overall trends of 2010 was “Gulf Oil Spill”, with “FIFA World Cup” and “Inception” (the movie) taking second and third place, respectively. Thus, breaking, sports and entertainment news top Twitter’s overall trends in 2010, which is in line with the idea of Twitter as a news service.

It seems like Apple has reigned supreme when it comes to tech coverage. Well then, it deserves to be on the list of Twitter top trends as it truly captures the attention of people with its new product releases. I myself have been hooked up with their gadgets. Congratulations Apple!
