Shanghai makes room for China’s first capsule hotel

China’s very first capsule hotel has checked into the city of Shanghai, offering low-budget travellers another option with very attractive room rates.

Located near Shanghai’s Railway Station, the Xi Tai Capsule Hotel is China’s very first capsule hotel, modelled after those in Japan. Xi Tai Capsule Hotel owner Ta Zan said: “We are officially the first capsule hotel in mainland China.

The 68-room no-frills hotel provides free lockers, a public lavatory, showers and a smoking room. Measuring 1.1 metres in breadth and height and 2.2 metres in length, a capsule room — which can be booked by the hour — can comfortably accommodate one person. It also comes with its own flat screen TV and free wireless Internet service. “The basic check-in fee is US$4.40 (28 yuan) and then it’s US$0.60 per hour,” Mr Ta said. “The guest will be charged a maximum of US$13.30 if he stays between 15 and 24 hours.”

  • It sounds like a bedsheet motel for them to also charge by the hour. Can two people fit in and is sex allowed? LOL

Hi Nancy! Yes, men are horny. What else is new? Please try to refrain from using obscene language. Thank you for defending my piece on capsule hotels. They are for students and others who need a place to stay and do not have the money for a regular hotel.

If you see my youtube video, two girls, most likely students are explaining the accomodations of a capsule unit. I do hope that they do not allow despicable behavior as that creates most unsanitary conditions for these poor students!!!
