Reagan’s Illinois birth place hosts a 100th birthday in honor of the late president

Festivities for the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth are under way.

A special church service is scheduled Sunday morning at First Christian Church in Dixon.

Also, a birthday party complete with cake, is planned at the Tampico Historical Society. The 40th president was born in the central Illinois community on Feb. 6, 1911.

Several commemorations have been held in Illinois. Regan grew up in Dixon and Monmouth and attended college in Eureka. He also spent a short time in Chicago.

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich was among the political notables attending a Friday celebration.

He visited Regan’s birth place and then went to Sterling Township High School, where hundreds turned out to watch a film that he and his wife made about Reagan’s life.

A man like Ronald Reagan only comes along once in a lifetime! My dear friend wrote a letter to him and he responded to her and actually made an appearance at her University at St. John’s! I will never forget how excited she was and how honored she was that he actually replied. He was the reason why she entered the political field and is doing so many wonderful things to help people today! His kindness and generosity towards her made a major impact on her life.
