So You Want to Be a TV Chef

Poh Ling Yeow has a dream job: She’s the chef on her own cooking show. Ms. Yeow isn’t a trained chef. She doesn’t own a restaurant. Nor is she a former model or Gwyneth Paltrow. The fifth-generation Chinese Malaysian, who lives in Australia, is a former make-up artist.

She got into the cooking-show industry two years ago when she landed a spot on the first season of the Australian reality series for amateur chefs and home cooks, “MasterChef.” She was the runner-up of the contest, the grand prize of which includes 100,000 Australian dollars (US$101,580) in cash, a chance to publish a cookbook, and training from leading professional chefs. Her exposure paved the way for her own show, “Poh’s Kitchen,” which launched Feb. 14 and airs Mondays and Tuesdays on the Discovery Travel & Living Channel.

On the show she teaches viewers some of her favorite recipes, incorporating inspiration from her Malaysian roots. Cameos from famous chefs and scenes from her travels in Malaysia are also featured. So what did it take her to get from girl-watching-the-food-show to girl-in-the food show? Ms. Yeow shares her strategy. Following are her five major steps to success:
Be on a reality TV show.
Be Asian.
Be in it for the right reasons.
Be quiet.
Be connected.

Take a peak into Poh’s Kitchen!

I think that it is a no-brainer that if you are female, it really helps if you are very pretty and perky!

I always notice that these new “chefs” on the popular cooking shows always show cleavage in the kitchen. Hey, that is a brilliant title for a new cooking show: Cleavage in the Kitchen. You heard it from me first! You could be referring to knives or a woman’s boobs or both! Watch and you’ll find out. If you are hot, have great big boobs and are talented with a knife, you just may be what they are looking for at The Food Channel.

I should go and audition. LOL Just kiddding!
