Lion King roars into the Lion city
The multi-award-winning musical adaptation of Disney favourite “Lion King” has finally reached the shores of Singapore. Performing in Southeast Asia for the first time after touring the world over 13 years, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands is the proud new ‘home’ of the Lion King produced Disney’s Theatrical Productions and Base Entertainment.
Adapted from the 1994 classic Disney film, Director Julie Taymore has brilliantly blended elements of African art and Broadway artistry to depict the animated film on stage so incredibly perfectly, that watching the musical once isn’t enough. “You can’t see it all in one visit. Ten years on and I am still seeing things that I’ve never seen before and it’s just absolutely beautiful,” said Jonathan Andrew Hume who plays “Simba”.
The 28-year-old UK native who plays the lead character in The Lion King musical has been with the production since 2001. And he was not exaggerating when he said this is one musical you need to catch more than once. Even at a sneak peek, the Lion King was a jaw dropping theatrical performance.
Can you feel the love tonight
The Original London Cast of THE LION KING
My allegiance is to Broadway but I saw the play for the first time in London. Also, Elton John is a genius! “Can you feel the love tonight” is one of the most beautiful songs ever written!
