Time for Some Shade
It’s one thing to rock some fancy eyewear, it’s another when your glasses become almost a blindfold. Some of this season’s newest shades walk a thin line between the two.
Take the vintage peek-a-boo sunglasses by designer Linda Farrow (Lady Gaga wore Ms. Farrow’s Mickey Mouse sunglasses in her 2009 “Paparazzi” video. In lieu of a lens, plastic fingers stretch over your eyes, leaving you just enough room to see in between them.
In a new pair by eyewear maker Kerin Rose, whose A-Morir brand, stud-covered “Barracuda” design was worn by Rihanna in her “Run This Town” music video in 2009, a single layer of black lace is pulled over transparent plastic frames and lenses (2,550 dollars Hong Kong, or US$328 at Hong Kong’s On Pedder, but you can find them online for about US$210 ). Another style features long black tassels that hang down to your chest (for HK$4,700).
The BEST sunglasses are shades that block the other person from seeing where your eyes are going while at the same time making you look great and perfectly innocent.
