China reprimands Vietnam over offshore oil exploration

China criticised Vietnam on Saturday for its offshore exploration of oil and gas in the contested South China Sea after Hanoi complained that three Chinese patrol boats had challenged a Vietnamese ship. The Vietnamese ship, the Binh Minh 02, detected the Chinese patrol boats approaching on radar at about 5 a.m. on Thursday (2200 GMT on Wednesday), the official Vietnam News Agency reported.

About an hour later, the three Chinese boats intentionally ran through the area where the Vietnamese ship was working, snapping cables the ship was using, then left the scene after about three hours, it said. China’s Foreign Ministry implied the fault for the incident lay with Vietnam. “China’s stance on the South China Sea is clear and consistent. We oppose oil and gas operations conducted by Vietnam, which have undermined China’s interests and jurisdictional rights in the South China Sea and violated the consensus both countries have reached on the issue,” ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said. “What relevant Chinese departments did was completely normal marine law-enforcement and surveillance activities in China’s jurisdictional sea area,” she said in a statement posted on the ministry’s website (www.mfa.gov.cn).

“China has been committed to safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea. We are willing to work together with relevant parties to seek a solution to related disputes,” Jiang added. Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry protested against the incident by passing a diplomatic note to representatives of the Chinese embassy in Hanoi on Thursday.

So ashamed, China lied about this fact. We explored in our territorial sea (as defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea), Chinese marine surveillance vessels menaced our ships, cut the exploration cable, and disturbed our work. But, China criticized our about their harmful actions, so funny! China’s laying a plot to invade our oil and gas and our country. China’s also doing the same thing with Philippines.

Dear everybody, Vietnamese’s friends, Vietnamese people,

Vietnam is a nation of love, happiness, freedom and peace. We love peace, we always want to resolve every international problem by negotiation, in peace. But, if they until menace to our independent, sovereignty, and area’s peace, we will not compromise.

    We’re always unshakeable nation!!!

    Don’t let China fool you

    My dear non-Vietnamese friends,

I’m writing to call your attention to a serious incident that may even trigger war in Vietnam.

On May 26, three Chinese maritime surveillance ships blocked and damaged exploration cables of a Vietnamese oil exploration ship just 120 nautical miles east of the beautiful Nha Trang city.

This incident did NOT take place in the disputed territorial waters.

This incident took place completely INSIDE Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone. According to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, coastal states have sovereign rights in a 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) with respect to natural resources and certain economic activities, and exercise jurisdiction over marine science research and environmental protection.

China is a signatory of this Convention.

For the past several months, Chinese fishing boats, assisted by armed Chinese Navy ships – disguised as “surveillance” and “fishing regulator” forces – have swarmed the South China Sea, blocking normal and perfectly legal fishing activities of Vietnamese civilian boats.

Chinese navy ships often intercepted Vietnamese fishermen, confiscated their boats and demanded ransom. Chinese forces in the Paracels have refused shelter for Vietnamese fishermen during tropical storms. In the last few weeks, Chinese navy has even opened fire at Vietnamese fishermen within Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.

That is the current situation. China will use its vast resources to launch a campaign to paint a different picture. Don’t let them fool you.

For thousands of years, China has always wanted to invade Vietnam, to assimilate us. Time and time again, they have failed. Vietnamese are not war-mongers. The first noteworthy structure that King Ly built after 1,000 years of war with China in 1075 is the Temple of LITERATURE in Hanoi. But if China comes again, we will fight and defeat them again.

    Support us. Thank you.
