The Beijing Olympics have been over for a month now but China continues to have a tight grip on the people of Tibet. Even though protests were organized to bring awareness of the Chinese occupation during the highly publicized Olympic games, the problem continues to exist. Numerous Asian American students protesting the occupation were arrested during the Olympics and recently released. The ultimate goal of Students for a Free Tibet is to help Tibetans regain their independent nation. They also work hard to end the atrocious violations of the Tibetan people’s political, religious, cultural, social and economic rights by the Chinese government. However, it is important to bear in mind that they work in solidarity with the Tibetan people, who continue to struggle for the restoration of their country Tibet. More information on the group below.

Students for a Free Tibet’s programs focus on two main areas: hard-hitting campaigns to make China’s occupation of Tibet too costly to maintain, and training to help students become successful leaders and activists for Tibet and their own communities. The campaigns mobilize tens of thousands of people around the world, leveraging pressure on the Chinese government to leave Tibet. Their leadership training has given thousands of young people the skills and inspiration to be leaders in the struggle for Tibet and for social justice worldwide.
