Not only are some schools introducing the Chinese language to their students but they are also introducing Chinese cultural classes for a more interactive approach to learning. The Chinese Language School of Connecticut teaches Mandarin Chinese to students ages 18 months and up, using age appropriate, interactive methods in order to introduce children to Chinese and various facets of Chinese culture using a hands-on approach. CLSC President, Susan Serven said her school offers workshops which immerses students in Chinese culture using art, music, food and other activities. Students will learn to write calligraphy with a brush and ink on rice paper, make and taste real dumplings, order food in Chinese at a field trip to a Chinese restaurant, recite poetry written nearly a thousand years ago, and sing, listen and dance to classical & contemporary Chinese music. With America’s current and future economic climate full of uncertainty, it looks like the best investment to give American children and even yourself is an appreciation and education of international cultures, especially Asian!
