Greenwich Concours d’Elegance

Listed in 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, Greenwich is unique, in that it is actually two concours, back-to-back. Saturday’s Concours Americana is exclusively for American makes, while Sunday’s Concours International is exclusively for imported marques. The theme of the show is “Mid-Century Hybrids”, which will be a special two-day display. Unlike the hybrids of today, these classics were called hybrids because they combined American running gear and V-8 engines with hand-crafted bodies by Italian, French, and British coach makers. We have an amazing assemblage of hybrids including a Facel Vega, Cunningham, Dual Ghia, Iso Grifo, Cobra, Hudson Italia, Fitch Phoenix, and Pantera. This year will once again feature a three-day regatta of classic former America’s Cup 12-Meter yachts. Held in association with the 12-M Yacht Development Foundation, these magnificent craft will be competing for the Greenwich Concours Cup. Concours visitors will be able to view the yachts up close, and there will also be limited opportunities to sail on them. Classic motorcycles will also be on display including a collection of every model ever made in the series of legendary Triumph Bonneville TT Special racing motorcycles.

Young and old will enjoy trying out the display of “Virtual GT” driving simulators in the Automobile Magazine/Motor Trend pavilion. There will be galleries of automotive art and demonstrations, as well as displays of the very latest new cars such as Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Lexus, Jaguar, Mini, Land Rover, Smart, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, and Bugatti.

The 16th Annual Greenwich Concours d’Elegance will take place at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Connecticut on June 4-5, 2011. AmeriCares, the international relief organization top-ranked by Money Magazine, has been the charitable beneficiary of the Concours since 1996. Hours are 10 am to 5 pm; admission is $25 for one day, or $40 for both days. Children 12 and under are free. Lunch is available on-site, and parking is free. Immediately off Exit 3 of I-95 in Connecticut, the Greenwich Concours is also accessible by train, plane, and boat.

The Annual Greenwich Concours d’Elegance at the Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich is a great event! I try to go every year if I can. It is a very unique event in that you can also view yachts up close, and there will also be limited opportunities to sail on them. Classic motorcycles will also be on display. The best of both worlds, if you will.
