McDonald’s to Offer Super Cheap McWeddings

McDonald’s burger chain will soon offer wedding receptions as one of their services. The famous Golden Arches is an American symbol of pop culture and the world’s number one fast food chain.

The McWedding service will begin next year at McDonald’s branches in Hong Kong.

They will initially offer the service in 3 branches that will also cover anniversary parties aside from weddings, according to Oriental Daily, a Chinese language news publication.

Helen Cheung of McDonald’s Hong Kong said that they will offer French fries to replace the traditional custom of wedding couples eating cherries and then kissing. People meet at McDonald’s, date at McDonald’s and some want to get married at McDonalds.

Cheung said they see this as a business opportunity.

Cheung is director of McDonald’s corporate communications and relations department in Hong Kong. McDonald’s has not released an official price tag for the service but added that they have already started accepting reservations this month.

So far one couple has confirmed their reservation for a McWedding ceremony.

Hong Kong’s traditional large scale weddings has put a financial burden on young Chinese couples.

Typically a table for 10 at a hotel restaurant would cost HK$10,000 or US$1,300. Most Chinese families like to host large wedding consisting of several tables.
