Indo-Americans Commemorate 9/11 with BARRIERS
To commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the Indo-American Arts Council will re-stage the play, Barriers, at the HERE Theatre in New York.
Taking place four months after 9/11, BARRIERS focuses on the Chinese/Pakistani Abbas family and the loss of their eldest son Nabhil who had been in the World Trade Center during the attack and how the family dynamics shift as they deal with their grief and the pending marriage of their only daughter to a white man.
An all-star cast will re-stage the play written by Rehana LewMirza (THE GOOD MUSLIM). Pooja Kumar (Miss India USA 1995, “Hiding Divya”)and Sunkrish Bala (ABC-TV’s “Notes from the Underbelly”)will be among the all-star cast.
Barriers was originally mounted in 2002 at the HERE Theatre and was subsequently produced by the Asian American Theatre Company in San Francisco and Los Angeles in 2003. This performance marks its return to the HERE stage and is scheduled to run from September 7-18.
BARRIERS, playing at the HERE Theatre, 145 Sixth Avenue, New York. Tickets are $18 each.
It will run Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm and 7:00pm (exception: no 7:00pm performance on Sunday, September 18).
The performances on Sunday, September 11th at 2pm will be “pay what you can,” with part of the proceeds going to support The Neil G. Shastri Foundation – an education foundation named for a September 11th victim of South Asian descent.
