LAST NIGHT – Barneys New York & Carine Roitfeld at Westway
Last night (above Alexander Wang), Barneys New York held a celebration in honor of Carine Roitfeld at Westway. A select few were given the opportunity to bring out their inner rock star by singing Karaoke emceed by Andy Boose and enjoying Roitfeld’s favorite drink, Testarossas and tacos from the Montaco truck stationed outside.
Barneys New York, the luxury specialty retailer, debuted ‘Carine’s World,’ its Women’s Fall 2011 campaign celebrating Carine Roitfeld and her iconic style in August 2010. Bringing her unique aesthetic and influence stateside for this particular project, Ms. Roitfeld was invited to serve as a special guest editor and stylist working alongside celebrated photographer Mario Sorrenti and Barneys New York Creative Director, Dennis Freedman.
Mario Sorrenti, who shot the campaign in both Paris and New York, also produced an exclusive short film featuring Ms. Roitfeld that captures the essence of ‘Carine’s World.’ Having worked together for over a decade at Vogue Paris, Mr. Sorrenti has created a personal view of her world, style, and passion in a way that only he can.
Featured in the campaign are individuals cast by Ms. Roitfeld from various aspects of her life, including some she has worked with throughout the years, others that she has admired for their style, and also those closest to her including her family and many dear friends. Shot on various locations throughout Paris and New York, including Ms. Roitfeld’s own Paris apartment, the images both capture her unique style and highlight her relationships with the subjects. In the mailer, each image will include a personal quote by Ms. Roitfeld describing how that individual has personally affected her life.
“Our goal with the campaign was to create a personal experience with someone who has extraordinary style like Carine”, said Freedman, who worked directly with Roitfeld and Sorrenti to bring this campaign to life. “Many do not know the side of Carine that is less public, and we wanted to share this aspect of her with the Barneys New York customer for our fall campaign. “
The centerpiece of the fall 2011 season at Barneys New York, ‘Carine’s World’ will be prominently featured in the store’s Madison Avenue windows and across multiple platforms including the Fall mailer – which arrive in customers’ homes on September 2nd – the advertising campaign, and on Barneys.com.
