Barangay Los Angeles has accepted the public apology of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao following reports that he quoted a Bible verse that frowns on same-sex marriage.
“We accept Manny Pacquiao’s apology, clarification regarding homosexuality and gay marriage but we also acknowledge the fact that some people from our community were hurt and felt betrayed by the whole incident,” Robert Julius Maullon, president of Barangay Los Angeles, which is a “not-for-profit community organization serving the LGBTQ Filipino & Filipino-American community.”
The prized boxer caught the collective ire of the LGBT community when he was alleged to have recited a Bible verse [Leviticus 20:13] in discussing his stance on same-sex marriage.
“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads,” Pacquaio was quoted to have said by the Examiner.
Pacquiao has since apologized in his interview with Mario Lopez for Extra, as reported by abs-cbnnews.com on May 17. He clarified that he did not utter that Bible verse at all during his interview with the Examiner.
Pacquiao added: “I did not say I wanted all gays put to death…to the gay community, I apologize.”
