Newt Gingrich gets a super PAC

A new, pro-Newt Gingrich super PAC – Solutions 2012 – launched around the time of the GOP presidential debate last night. Charlie Smith, a former College Republicans chairman, is heading it up and made the case to us that discontent conservatives and disheartened Rick Perry supporters will start to turn toward Gingrich.

“If Rick Perry gave that performance as the Republican nominee, they wouldn’t have to count the ballots; it would be over on the spot,” Smith said. “Compare that to Newt, who showed the kind of intellect that conservatives have long known and respected. That contrast will absolutely lead to more support for Newt.”

Here’s the super PAC pitch in video form, focusing on Gingrich’s policy chops and unwillingness to attack other Republicans:

Not all super PACs are created equal, notwithstanding the tendency to write about them as though they’re some kind of high-tech weapon system (“Newt Gingrich has acquired super PAC capability.”) Just because there’s an instrument allowing supporters of a candidate to give unlimited amounts of money doesn’t mean that they will. Still, having the instrument is a start, and if Gingrich is ever going to have a moment in the race, this is probably it.

People are discovering for the first time what I have known all along, that Newt Gingrich is the man for the job! For starters, Speaker Gingrich is the only Presidential Candidate that has challenged President Obama to a series of debates that focuses specifically on Obamacare and the healthcare industry in general!
