I used to be the only Asian girl and it was cool because after awhile people knew who I was and I built a lot of good relationships.

Kim Lee

Kim Lee has always seen the bigger picture in wanting to do feature films and television. She always had the desire to be a creative artist expressing herself to make audiences laugh and leave with the notion that it was a great performance. She made her debut on television at the age of 19 when she was cast as the lead female in the Jamie Kennedy ft Bob Saget “Rolling with Bob Saget” video. Kim has also appeared in several music videos, notably in Neyo’s “Beautiful”, Kid Cudi ft Kanye West’s “Erase Me”, Flo Rida featuring David Guetta’s “Club Can’t Handle Me” and “Hot n Cold” with Katy Perry music videos. She just recently starred in a music video titled, “Touchin on My” by 3oh!3 directed by Isaac Ravishankara. Kim Lee has also been featured as a lead and supporting female in several television commercials, such as “LRG Side Kick and iPhone”, “Bud Light”, “Party City” and “McDonald’s”.

While appearing as a guest star on CSI Las Vegas, Entourage, MTV “Next”, MTV Jamie Kennedy “Blown Up”, Snoop Dogg’s “Fatherhood” on “E” channel, Kim started segueing into film roles after receiving interest from various directors and producers from Hollywood. Kim auditioned and won the role of Yogi in Joseph A. Elmore Jr.’s “Speed-Dating” and the successful role in the franchise “Hangover 2”. She is also co-starring in Andrew Fischer’s widely talked about feature film “Chronicles of Rick Roll”.

When Kim isn’t focused on her modeling and acting career she enjoys working the family business and continuing her education for a business degree. As a young girl, Kim always had a passion for playing the piano. She soon learned how to play by ear and took lessons at the age of 8 and would perform for family parties. When Kim’s not filming or gracing magazine covers, she loves to travel and learn about different cultures and countries. She just recently started a fundraiser for the people of Japan.

She was announced Miss Vietnam USA in March 2011!

ASIANCE: Tell us about your family background. You are French and Vietnamese? How did your parents meet? Did they incorporate both cultures growing up?

Kim: My Father is French and my Mother is Viet and 1/4 french. Not quiet sure how they met but all I know is it was love at first sight for him haha. Alot of Vietnamese are mixed with french. So growing up I ate a lot French and Vietnamese food. My family actually speaks fluent French accept for me cause I was born here.

ASIANCE: What do you love about starring in music videos? Love “Club Can’t Handle Me”!!

Kim: I actually love getting dressed up in different characters. If you look at the videos I’ve done I usually like doing creative videos like Steve Aoki’s “Brrrat”. I looked like a zombie and for Kanye West “Love Lockdown”.

Can you find Kim in “Brrat”

I had no makeup and they had neon paint on me and I had to do the tribal dance. But I would say the best part is networking. I’ve met so many people throughout the years and in the entertainment industry. It’s all about networking and who you know. But I got into doing videos to get my foot in the door. Because of that I have been on many covers of MAXIM and FHM all over the world. You never know what can lead you to what. I remember I used to go to so many auditions and I used to be the only Asian girl and it was cool because after awhile people knew who I was and I built a lot of good relationships and they just called me directly when they need an asian girl for a video. Then I knew that’s not just what I wanted to do. I always want to expand and try new things. I told myself, “ok I did music videos, I got lucky with the Hangover 2 and I did so many magazines, what is next?” So right now I’m focusing on dj’ing and it’s a lot of work..more than I thought but I found my passion and we’re getting ready to tour Asia next month. I DJ with my partner Kat Nova. We go by KIMKAT. We play house electro and we’ll actually be dj’n in Hanoi Vietnam at New Square and Next Top club on the 18th, 19th and 20th of October.

ASIANCE: What did you like the most about runway modeling? What did you like the least?

Kim: I would say meeting different designers and getting to travel. I remember when I almost fell at my first show. I was so nervous but it was definitely a good experience.

ASIANCE: What kind of roles do you prefer?

Kim: I like doing comedy movies. I had the most fun on the set of the Hangover 2. I laughed so hard, even the crew members couldn’t stop laughing on set. Mr Chow (Ken Jeong) is hilarious and the fact that he’s a dentist is awesome.

ASIANCE: What do you do for fun?

Kim: I like to relax. I have been baking cupcakes even though I don’t eat sweets. I usually take the boat out or just work out.

ASIANCE: What is the most memorable experience you’ve had on the job?

Kim: When I was on the set of the Hangover and they wanted us to dance on the pole and I remember all Asian girls were really shy, so of course I knew the director was paying attention, so I was dancing like a real stripper on the pole. I didn’t even know I had those moves haha and so Todd Phillips came out and he pointed to me and said,”Can you do a solo scene?” You should have seen the looks on every girl’s face!! They looked like they wanted to kill me but like I said to the girls, “It’s a movie and we’re all acting so don’t take it seriously.” But I thought it was funny.

ASIANCE: What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?

Kim: Honestly, I see myself owning a couple businesses. I love the entertainment business and with the money I’m making, I’m saving it and I’m going to invest it in businesses. Hopefully I’ll be married by then with one or two kids.

ASIANCE: Who are your role models? Who would you like to work with in Hollywood?

Kim: I love Angelina Jolie not because she’s beautiful, but because she helps others and the fact she adopted kids from different countries is amazing. She’s doing something positive to help the world and that’s someone who is inspiring to me. Of course my mother, she’s the reason why I made it this far. I’m very lucky to have such a loving and supportive family. They even have my maxim covers framed at home which is kind of awkward for me in the beginning bcause when you walk into their house there is a half naked picture of me! Usually you see naked baby pictures, not grown half naked pictures! haha but I think its awesome. I would love to work with Todd Phillips again and David Fincher.

ASIANCE: Who do you look up to in the Asian community? Asian American Women?

Kim: My friends from the Far East Movement. They came a long way and to be the first Asian Americana to sign to a major label is huge. They always show me love and shout out to Kev-Nish for requesting me to do their video. But times are changing and the doors are really opening up for Asian Americans. The world needs to see how talented we are!

ASIANCE: Is there something you regret ever doing on social media? What is the best thing?

Kim: Umm… I don’t regret anything. I think everything I did was a good experience. I learned a lot and the best thing is being recognized and I have many people messaging me everyday telling how they are my fans and it’s a blessing to me.

ASIANCE: Who is your ultimate man? We want to get a feel for your type!

Kim: A unique, hard working man who is funny, caring and loves his mother.

ASIANCE: What is your favorite place to travel to?

Kim: I love Singapore! It’s like my 2nd home. But I really want to go to the Maldives!

ASIANCE: Do you have a favorite country to visit in Asia?

Kim: Singapore and Bali

ASIANCE: What is your beauty and workout routine?

Kim: I live a healthy lifestyle. I work out daily and I don’t eat fried food. I take women’s vitamins every day and I drink lots of water. I use moisturizer in the morning and night. I also use eye cream and the main thing is to not stress!
