Tiger Woods’ Ex-Wife donates valuables from home

Just days after it was reported that Tiger Woods’ ex-wife Elin Nordegren tore down a $12.3 million home in Palm Beach County to build a new one, it appears that many of the valuable contents of that estate will be on the auction block at Habitat for Humanity’s warehouse in Stuart, reported the Palm Beach Post.

Among the items donated to Habitat by Nordegren, who bought the home a little over a year ago, are a 12-foot fountain with water spouting out of three lion’s mouths, five subzero refrigerators, 14 vanities, temperature-controlled wine coolers as well as other furniture, said Habitat officials.

The items are expected to bring a bounty, as much as $30,000 a Habitat official told the newspaper.

The home was demolished in December, reportedly because workers found extensive termite and insect damage in six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and other areas in the two-story home.

The donation by Nordegren is among the largest to Habitat Humanity in the region in recent years, officials told the newspaper.

That’s still not that much but better than nothing! Nice PR move!

Nice PR move is right! 12 million in sheer vanity and waste vs. a tiny $30,000 donation?? A good PR person would have cost much more than that. You know, when you donate items to charities like Habitat, they take care of the pick up, removal and delivery for you. The other thing is that when rich people who are genuinely good and caring donate money, they don’t publicize it in any way. If they do, it is much more for their own benefit and image than to actually aid the charity and comes across as extremely vain and distasteful. The point of volunteering and donating money to worthy causes is to put other people in need before yourself, is it not?? Anyway, that’s what the Bible says.

I admire Charles F. Feeney who established a charity fund under the name Atlantic. He is a self-made billionaire who pretty much goes unknown and unrecognized at his request. He is a true philanthropist and a role model to follow. For starters, he doesn’t refer to himself as Chuck Feeney The Philanthropist. I bet you never even heard of him. The man is a class act to say the very least.

I know that I am hardly alone when I say that very rich people need to stop using Charities as cheap PR vehicles and as image promoters. The tremendous tax write-off is more than enough. Be happy with that. Boasting about it in public through periodicals and other media channels is disgusting and in poor taste. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone else. How is that for PR and your image??
