Ang Lee is up for a Golden Globe for Best Director for “Life of Pi”. The movie has also been nominated for Best Motion Picture and Best Original Score.
The Chinese-language publication World Journal covered Lee’s reaction to the multiple Oscar nominations for his film. Having been woken up by his assistant, the director thought he was still dreaming when he found out that “Life of Pi” got 11 nods.
Lee indicated that, after not being able to fall asleep the night before, his assistant woke him up early in the morning while he was dreaming. When he found out that “Life of Pi” was nominated in so many categories, he thought he was still in the middle of a dream.
He also said that “Life of Pi,” from the start of the award season, has been slow to catch up. From the beginning, he was not sure if the judges would like the Indian songs. Never did he think the movie would be nominated for Original Score and Original Song. With the good showing in the nominations, he wanted to thank the Chinese audiences who supported the movie. […]
Speaking about his homeland, he said, “Shooting the film in Taiwan allowed me to reconnect with it after leaving it so many years ago. I was very touched to find such a warm welcome. There were always people willing to help out in anything I intended to do. Word of the mouth and good showing at the box office all started from Taiwan. I would like to thank everybody there.” Up to today, his favorite food is still his hometown cuisine. The shooting of the film in Taiwan further introduced the island and its special local products to Hollywood.
