The first Asian-American to be promoted to the rank of police sergeant
The first Asian-American to be promoted to the rank of police sergeant by Cambridge Police was sworn in at a ceremony this week.
Frederick T. Leung, an 8-year veteran of the department who had been an optometrist for before deciding to pursue a career as a police officer, was promoted to the rank of sergeant Tuesday in a ceremony at the Robert W. Healy Safety Facility.
Cambridge Police said in a press release that it was a historic moment for the department because Leung, a second-generation American, is the first Asian-American to achieve the rank in the city.
